Why can I use Florecent light bulb with a From Dusk to Dawn exterior lighting?
and if I used it, does it really save money? Or would it mess up the electric system to cause higher electric bills? Should I change it back to a normal light bulb ?
How do I add a switch to hardwired exterior lighting?
The previous owner of my house had an electrician install two floodlight fixtures outside the house. There is a black, white and green wire from each fixture going to a junction box. The junction box is located next to a power outlet. It looks like the installer ran three wires 1 black, 1 white, 1 green from the power outlet to this junction box. Inside the junction box the two green wires from the exterior fixtures and the one green wire coming over from the power outlet are all joined together with a wire nut. Likewise all three white wires are joined together, and all three black wires are joined together.I would like to wire a switch up so I can control when these lights come on and off. Currently I have to rely on the daylight sensors on the fixtures to switch them on and off but this leaves them on all day on cloudy days. And to adjust the settings on the fixtures I have to climb up on a ladder to reach them. It would be really nice to be able to flip a switch to turn them off, or even be able to install a switch with a built in timer.

hi i am building a new house and love the look of the under soffit overhang lighting at night as opposed to coachman lights at the sides of your door....but im not sure what i use to create it. is it some sort of potlight? if so what am i looking for? is there a certain one you have to use for outdoors???

So i just moved into a home that was built in 2002. I have two lights on each side of the garage in order to light up the driveway. I have put in nice new energy efficient bulbs and sometimes they turn on at night and sometimes they do not. WTF? I have literally walked around the house and turned on every switch at the same time to no avail. The lights in the backyard have switches and I know how to use those, I just flick them on and off, but the exterior garage lights are smarter than me. There has to be a timer somewhere as I see no solar panels. Where might one find this timer besides the obvious places like switches and outlets?

Does anyone know how to remove oxidation from exterior lighting fixtures?
I installed all new low voltage exterior landscape lighting three years ago. The fixtures now have fairly noticable oxidation. I believe that they are powder coated cast aluminum. I have 20 path lights, a large five lamp pole fixture, and several floods that all have the same problem. I invested a fairly substansial amount of time and money in this lighting and I would like to find some way to remove the oxidation without having to replace all of the lights.

If using low voltage what are the best fixtures? Same if using " regular" voltage what would be the best fixtures?
