Why do gas range knobs turn left to turn on?
All knobs on electronic equipment and automobiles turn right to turn on. Why do gas knobs turn left? It is confusing to me as a consumer.

I'm renting a older home...and when I moved in, I noticed that some outlets had 3 prongs and some only had 2. For only God knows why, the outlet in the kitchen where the stove goes, only had 2 prongs.. ..My uncle hooked up my stove for me and just put a 3 2 prong adapter in...Is this safe? Thanks.The weird thing is that I have more 3 prong outlets than 2 prong in the house..Most of the 2 prongs are upstairs. To my knowledge..the outlets are grounded downstairs..I have a surge protector in one of the outlets in the living room that tells me if the outlet is grounded, and that one is...Though I plugged the same typed of protector in a " 3 prong" upstairs and it says that one is not grounded isn't that illegal? . Anyway, Could it be possible that the one in the kitchen is grounded also, but just doesn't have the 3 prong? I don't know, I have no clue when it comes to this stuff, and I'm starting to get a little ticked off at the landlord.
Why do most (maybe all) gas ranges have their controls in the front?
All the gas ranges I can find have the control knobs located in the front within the reach of small children . Why don't any have controls located on the backsplash like electric ranges? Someone told me it was because the knobs will melt because of how hot gas ranges are... but that doesn't make sense to me as I suspect that all ranges need to cook at approx. the same temp . I'm sure there is some other more accurate reason. Can anyone shed any light on this for me?
Why does my Frigidaire gas range reset itself?
Frigidaire natural gas range, model number LFGF3014LBC purchased 9 17 11Intermittently, when I light the burner or use the oven the range electronics will reset and flash 12 00. I have found that this happens more often when you turn the dial quickly to HI instead of LITE to release gas, then turn it to LITE more gas ignites and sometimes the LCD readout will blink at the same frequency as the spark .This range is still under warranty, but I would like to know if it is something that I can fix easily or if it is something that I can better explain to the technician who gets sent to diagnose the range.Thanks for your help

Should I replace the ignitor on a gas range or buy a whole new one?
My oven isn't working, but the burners are. My dad used to be an appliance repairman and he said it's the ignitor. The part costs about $75 and he can put it in so there won't be any labor cost. The range came with the house when we bought it, but I was looking through some instruction manuals and found the one for the range. It said it was bought in 1997. Since it's 14 years old, I'm wondering what the normal life expectancy is. A new range is about $500. That's obviously quite a bit more than the repair, but I also don't want to replace the ignitor and then have the whole thing need replaced. Any thoughts?

My gas range smells like charcoal when I use it?
I just noticed that when I turned on my gas stove, it smelled like a charcoal grill. I immediately turned it off, and the smell went away pretty quickly, so I don't think it's terribly dangerous. I'm going to get my landlord in to check on it tomorrow, but what could cause that smell? I'm not doing any painting or renovation, and the CO detector didn't go off. The range isn't terribly clean, though. Maybe there's some kind of buildup?
Whirlpool Gas Range - Heat shield between oven and storage drawer?
We recently moved to a used house that came with a Whirlpool gas range model WFG 114SVB0. No manual or instructions found in the house.When wife had the oven on, and she went to remove a un used pan from the storage drawer beneath the oven she burned her hand badly.Just had a repair person out today to adjust one of the stove top burners which would not self ignite. We asked him about should there any type of heat shield between the oven and storage area. He said it varies by the brand.Then he pulled out a thin metal sheet that was the bottom of the oven. You can put your hand into the oven and reach into the storage drawer which is below the oven. There is no heat shield. There is no solid barrier between the two areas. There is no insulation between the two areas.Wife and I were shocked. We are used to electric ovens.Questions are Is this normal or did the previous owners remove something? Can we buy and install a heat shield?
