Helpful motion detectors info
Can I wire motion detectors in parrallel? (cheap motion detector lights)?
I have 2 motion detector lights... Each is supposed to detect motion in 240 degree angle. But I want 360 degrees. And I want all 4 lights to come on, and I want to have a radio come on whenever there is any motion in the area... trying to keep deer out of the garden So I'm wondering if I can join the power wires that come from the motion detectors so that I'll have lights and power when either motion detector is activated. My only concern is blowing the motion detector. If it was a solenoid, I wouldn't worry. And maybe if I knew more I wouldn't worry. Is it ok to have power coming to the out part of the detector circuit when it's not activated. Of course I'm making sure that I keep blacks with blacks and whites with whites. I'm assuming they are wired the same so they'll be in phase that way... won't short out... Thanx from British Columbia
Wiring 2 motion detectors to the same series of lights?
I have lights that are built in to the risers of my deck stairs, 5 lights in all. Since it's quite dark in this area, I'd like to install a motion detector switch at both the top and the bottom of the stairs, so that no matter where you start from, the stairs will be completely lighted as you go up or down. Basically, the lights would be wired between the 2 switches. Is there any problem with wiring 2 motion detectors like this? I assume I would need to wire it sort of like a 3 way switch. The motion detector I'm looking at has red, black and white wires, so could the red act as the traveller wire connecting the two switches, as well as connecting to the light load? The manufacturer does not have specific information on this type of setup, but on the other hand does not prohibit it either. Advice is appreciated
Need a solution to wireless motion detector?
I have outdoor motion detectors installed on my house but have an area about 200' from the house that I would like place a motion detector but have no electric there. I saw a wireless motion detector that can be placed away from the house and it will cause a chime to go off in the house. My question is Does anyone know of a system like this but instead of having it set off a chime in the house, can it activate one of my outdoor lights. That seems more effective, especially if I'm not home? Thanks Based on the 2 good responses to my question, please allow we to refine my question a little.I do have a solar system that I use in a different part and that works well. The problem I have is that I don't want the lights themselves in that part of the yard because they can be vandalized in that area. My ultimate goal is to have the detector back there where it will not be noticeable and have it trigger the spots on my house which do shine back there. Some of these types of systems appear to use a technology called X10 but I can't seem to find any that trigger outdoor lights remotely, just chimes. I was just hoping someone found one and was successful with it.Thanks.

What kind of Motion Detector should I buy to stop burglars?
There's been a lot of burglaries going on in my neighborhood. There's been rumors that they are using some kind of 'sleeping gas' to knock out the victims. And when they're asleep, the burglars break in and steal everything. So, I thought I should equip myself with motion detectors. But I don't know which one to buy. Help me Things to know 1. I want to mount it outside of my house.2. It should have Infrared technology so that it can read the heat waves coming from humans not the pets though.3. At night the outside of my house is totally dark. So, It should have a night vision camera too.4. It should take pictures or record video when it detects something strange.5. It shouldn't be very expensive. My budget is around $220.
Motion detector for garage, to turn on light in standard socket?
The lights on our old garage door opener have stopped working. A garage door repairman who came recently to repair an unrelated problem looked at them and said that the problem was that the contacts in the propetary sockets have come loose. He doubted it would be possible to repair them without getting a new door opener, and instead suggested that I get a motion detector for our main garage light, which is not part of the garage door it's just a standard light socket in the middle of the garage.I think that sounds like a great idea, even better than getting the door opener lights working. But when I looked at motion detectors on Amazon.com, I'm not sure what would be appropriate. Any suggestions? Thanks,Gregdonnyv The bulbs are standard and are not burned out if wiggled, they work for a day or so. I've tried replacing the bulbs same result. Thanks all for the great advice. I'm hoping to find one where I have the option to turn it on and have it stay on without motion. It sounds like I just need to get down to the hardware store and look at the products and ask questions. The information on Amazon.com just isn't detailed enough for my purposes.
