What is the best home alarm system?
I would like to get a home alarm system but aren't really sure which one is right for me.These are some qualities i want in it We don't have a landline, so it needs to work without the use of one. I would like all the sensors door,window, motion... to be armed and disarmed with the use of one keypad all at the same time. I need enough sensors to cover 7 windows and 3 doors. Don't really want or need motion sensor. No monthly or yearly charges of any sort. I want to pay for the actual system equipment and nothing more. And try to make it the best bang for my buck with all these qualities.
How to quietly turn off a home alarm system?
I have a friend who has a home alarm system. When they punch in the code to turn it off, it makes loud beeps. This annoys them so very much, they wanted me to ask it on here. Hi,I've just got a monitored ADT alarm fitted. It needs to be plugged into the phone line. I was wondering if this affects my phone bill, like will i be charged for the use of the line etc? Also, how energy efficient are the boxes?Any help would be great Thanks
DIY home alarm system?
The wife wants an alarm system, but I'm not too keen on shelling out 30 bucks month or locking myself into a 36 month contract, which it seems is the standard package from all of the companies. Most of the systems also only come with two door sensors and a single motion detector. To get what I want, I'd have to shell out another $300 500 up front on top of the recurring monthly monitoring fee putting the 36 month total cost of ownership in the $1500 range. The primary purpose is to help protect us when we're home by letting us know if someone enters our home. The system does not need to be monitored, and I don't plan to pay for monitoring if the system has that capability since it doesn't really add any value for me. It would be nice if it had some sort of configurable notification options, i.e. e mail, SMS, etc so I could at least know if something happens when I'm away from home. But that is definitely not a requirement.So, what I would like is a hardwired system with two keypads, a siren, 3 door sensors, two motion detectors and potentially a glass break sensor. I am mechanically and technically inclined, and think I could install a system myself given adequate instructions. Seems like I ought to be able to find something like this for maybe $500 or so. I'd like to find a source where I can buy the same equipment a company like Brinks or ADT would install vs going the cheap route with X10 or other inferior equipment.I do have dogs, and they do a good job, but it's just the extra peace of mind that the wife is wanting. I have guns and am not as concerned with how to deal with the problem as I am about being woken up and alert in time to do so. I would like to be woken up by the alarm telling me someone just kicked my front door in vs being woken up with said person already in my bedroom.BTW those signs probably are good deterrents, BUT your neighbors probably won't appreciate them, and they go a long way to damage your self defense case when the jury finds out about them. It makes it appear as though you're looking for trouble.Let me add that what I'm looking for is a place to source the parts I will need, and a place where I can find information on how to properly install and program a system.
How long does it take to to instal a home alarm?
The guy has been in the house 4 hours and still isn't done? Does it really take that long?
