Helpful bifold doors info
I have wood bifold doors in my closet. One of the doors is scratching my hard wood floors. How do I raise thi
Rough opening for bifold doors too short?
I just finished my basement, framed everything up myself, etc. I pretested the door openings and things looked alright, perhaps slightly tight for the bifold doors to the laundry closet, but I thought there was plenty space, they fit in place and worked fine with the rough in framing. So I went ahead and got the drywall and electrical done, painted all the walls, installed the doors and everything. Today I had the carpet put in. When they were done, the carpet installers told me they couldn't re fit my bifold doors back into the opening.I've been messing with it for a while now, and I'm screwed. The carpet ended up higher than I expected who knew berber pad would raise the floor by THAT much . I can't fit the bifold doors to the laundry closet back into the track now. I've tried adjusting the adjustment screws and such, but as it is I can only raise the doors so much because my rough opening was slightly smaller than it probably should have been. So now I'm in a bind everything is finished and I really would hate to rip out that wall just to reframe a header...and lose all that work I paid for on the drywall and such.If I could groove out the 2x4 in the doorframe header by 1 4 inch and inset the door track in there, it would work just fine. I have a router, but the bits all have a guard on them so I can't use them for this task.So my questions Should I groove out the 2x4 doorframe header? If so, what tool should I use to get a nice even groove? Do I have any other options aside from ripping the whole wall apart? As an aside, the laundry closet area is completely unfinished, so I have access to the framing for the doorframe from that side.

Measuring 24" bifold doors....are they really 23"?
I have a closet I want to install bifold doors. In another bedroom I have another closet with the exact same measurements with bifold doors already installed, and each one measures 23" across, from one edge of the wood to another. They are finished on both sides, so were not cut down,The opening of my door is approximately 46" about 1 2 inch or so . I see that bifold doors are stanard sizes, including 24" . If I buy these doors will I have to cut down the sides, or is there some secret to measuring them that I don't know e.g. do they add an inch for the installation or something ?Thanks THe total opening is less than 48" , which from your response suggets the 24" doors won't fit?

Installing bifold doors?
How can I get bifold doors to open further? I saw a helpful hint the Family Handyman Magazine.?
Something about adding an extension so the doors would open a little further. Right now the doors open to my laundry closet. It can only get my detergent drawer on my washer open 1 2 way to add detergent. I think if the doors swang out a bit I could actually add detergent to the washer. Any ideas?
I have bifold doors, solid bottom, louvered top, on my laundry room, how can I sound proof them?
How can i raise my patio up past the dpc to be level with my bifold doors?
Has anyone built a room divider using bifold doors?
I have a room that I want to divide off from the pets and also use as a guest room if needed. The room is 11ft 1.5 " wide, the ceiling drops low in one spot duct and would 6 ft 1" length so the doors would need to be free standing or be able to be supported some way. I was thinking of using the bi fold doors and then zigzagging them for support. I could also brace the far edges to wall for More support. Has anyone done this? Do you have any pictures?
How much can I cut off of bifold doors?
Most bifold doors are 80" long I have an opening that is 75" or high. That would mean cutting as much as 2 1 2" off the top and bottom. Is that possible? I can't make the opening bigger and can't seem to find smaller doors on line.
I lost the hinges for my bifold doors, can I replace them with any kind of hinges if I forget the brand name?
I'm finally getting around to installing my bifold doors that I've had for 5 years already been so busy up until now and I can't find the hinges or whatever they are to attach them to the sides of my closet. I have the track installed I did that immediately but never got around to putting the closet doors in as well , so I just need to replace those hinge thingys. Can I get any kind or brand or does it matter? They're bifold doors for a closet, I have two sets for a master closet, and they're solid wood on the bottom and louvered on top half & half . So, can someone who knows more about this than me and I know basically nothing let me know if I can just get any kind of hinges to replace my lost ones I think they were probably in something that was thrown out so it's likely they're gone or what? I'd love to have some links to stores that sell whatever you're recommending. Thanks so much.
