Care for granite counter tops?
I have had granite countertops installed. I would like to know the best way to care for them. They are solid granite, not overlay.

They seem to be all the rage when it comes to remodels. Every remodeled home I see on TV or in person has granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances . I think it impresses potential buyers so much they tend to overlook other less desirable aspects of the home. Personally I couldn't careless about counter tops. The counters tops in my apartment are laminate, and they serve their purpose quite well. Yet granite counter tops is all the rage. Is it your rage, too?
What backsplash best compliments white granite counter tops?
The counter top has a cream white background with hints of brown and black speckles. The cabinets are a cinnamon maple and the flour is composed of black granite tiles. Wall colour is a modern blue. If anyone has some suggestions I could really use them. I has tried and tested a ton of samples.

I am installing a kitchen island. The granite top is 3 cm thick and 35 x 50 inches. It will sit on a 30 x 25 inch island base. This means there will be 3 overhangs that will be 10 inches long. I will be fastening the base to the kitchen floor with 2 by 4s and 3 inch wood screws. Do I need to add supports underneath the overhangs?

How to make a granite counter top?
I plan on replacing my old kitchen counter tops with 12" x12" granite tile squares. I will be using 3 4" plywood then 1 8" cement board on that. My question is do I have to leave a grout line because I am using a cement board underneath? I would rather not have a grout line if I don't have to.
